This issue raises the controversial issue of whether students focus their college education on finding jobs after they graduate. Indisputably, college education offers many interesting subjects for students to discover, however, students should pursue courses that are required to find a job.
First of all, in almost every state, proper college education is only 4 years. In some states, unfortunately, college education is not free. Indeed, in the United States, a 4-year college education can cost up to 140K. This is too much for parents, especially who have more than one child to afford. Therefore, almost every 3 students out of 4 have no choice but taking a loan to go to college. After completing their education, students are expected to find a job and start paying their loans. It is a serious pressure on a 21-year-old. It is not surprise that in the United States, suicidal rate is high for newly graduates who has thousands of dollars loan to pay. Research shows that it is very common that almost 1 out of 5 still depend financially on their parents even long after they graduate. Considering the pressure, college students will have to face, students should focus on courses that will help them secure a job after college.
Besides, 4 year is not a long enough to take courses that prepare for a job let alone be distracted between various majors. According to research, almost half of employees in the United States say that they need constant training to stay competitive in the job market. For example, not keeping up with the new technology might cause them their job since they would not be able to fully satisfy their employer. But employers are reluctant to keep spending money for such trainings but still expect their employees to learn new skills that are required for the job. This means that college students even with a focused schedule might not be able to learn all skills required for a job. Since employers would look for a candidate who could do the job with the least cost students should learn new skills in college that is required for a job to stay competitive after they graduate instead of distracting themselves with irrelevant subjects.
As stated above, in the United States, the rate of employment right after college is low. Since students that took government or private loans to complete their education cannot start repaying without a job, in the United States, unpaid students’ loans are a threat to the economy and a burden on the society. When a college student cannot find a job right after college because he lacks skills required for a job, parents have to burden their loans. In the United States, more than half of employees make less than 30K a year whom most of them parents. Since most of the parents are too poor to pay their child’s college loans, they take loans with high interest to help their child to pay his college loans it is often the case that they lose their only houses to the bank when they cannot cope with such economic burden. In this case, they rely on government benefits for years closely effecting American economy and taxpayers.
