TOPIC: Luck plays more of a role in determining success than work ethic does.

This topic raises the controversial issue of whether luck is the more effective factor than having work ethics when it comes to deciding success. Indisputably, luck has played a role in every successful businessman or politicians life helping become where they are today. However, there are more efficient factors in success than luck.
First of all, in the United States, it is easy to start a business. The state requirements are lower compared to other states to encourage everyone to start their business. Therefore, there are unbelievable number of business in every single field in the United States. However, we don’t hear much or ever about almost 99 percent of them. Why is that? The question is it because they were unlucky to make their voice heard and instead Apple, the luckiest tech company, happened to be known the most. Of course, this is not the case. Because running a successful business requires work ethics such as being focused, creative, ability to figure out what sells and what does not. Steve Jobs started his business in a garage because he could not afford an office, so, we can say that he was not that lucky compared to those who started their business with incredible amount of money. However, Apple products are the most sold in their field. Even their exterior design tells us about their well-planned detailed that attracts customer’s attention. This is because when designing even his first products Steve Jobs knew how much exterior design of a technology matters to people; something that his competitors probably missed. Instead of being stuck with fixing the problems of the current version like the other tech companies in this sector do, Apple always invests in creating something new. Luck was not with Steve Jobs in the very beginning of his career as well as throughout his career. He competed against Bill Gates who was one of the richest people in the world even probably when we were born but unlucky Steve Jobs won the game.
Additionally, we can also see how little luck matters in state jobs. In the United States, unlike many other states, state officials, unless they are elected by the people, are appointed. They are strict laws of how an appointment works. For example, a non-lawyer, regardless of how connected or how rich he is, cannot become a judge. In the United States, white Americans are considered to be the luckiest when it comes to success because they are unlikely to be discriminated against when applying for a job. However, to prevent this luck get in the way of selecting the most qualified person for the job, there are laws that prohibits discrimination in employment, health or school admissions. Therefore, choosing between well-connected white American and a Native American who has more experience for a judiciary position there is not much about a committee can do. They have to comply with the law that gives details about what counts more for such job and the being more experienced is definitely one of them. If the Native American candidate suspects of discrimination against him, he can always bring a case against the Committee. In a democracy, luck should not and does not play any role when deciding who is going to be the judge.
